Cognition-immune interactions between executive function and working memory, tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and soluble TNF receptors (sTNFR1 and sTNFR2) in bipolar disorder

Robson Zazula et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with bipolar disorder performed significantly worse in working memory tasks and had higher TNF-alpha levels. There were significant correlations between sTNFR2 and neurocognitive tasks, as well as between sTNFR1 and symptoms of mania, depression, and anxiety among BD participants.

Prognostic role of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio in oral cancer: A meta-analysis

Summary: The meta-analysis suggests that higher PLR is associated with poor prognosis in oral cancer patients. Larger sample, multi-center studies are recommended for future validation of this conclusion.

High-lethality of suicide attempts associated with platelet to lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume in psychiatric inpatient setting

Andrea Aguglia et al.

Summary: This study evaluated biological parameters in relation to suicidal behavior and found that individuals with high-lethality suicide attempts had higher white blood cell indicators and lower lymphocytes. Only mean platelet volume and platelet to lymphocyte ratio were associated with high-lethality suicide attempts.

A comparison of inflammatory markers in manic and euthymic states of bipolar disorder

Selcuk Ozdin et al.

Summary: This study found that in the manic phases of bipolar disorder, inflammatory biomarkers NLR, PLR, and MLR values were higher, but decreased during the remission period after treatment. However, in the euthymic phase of bipolar disorder, platelet and monocyte counts as well as MLR values were higher than the control group.

Association Between Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index and Diabetic Depression

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between diabetic depression and SII levels, finding that high SII level is an independent risk factor for diabetic depression. The study also suggests that SII may be an easily accessible and cost-effective strategy for identifying depression in patients with diabetes.

Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte, Platelet-to-Lymphocyte and Monocyte-to-Lymphocyte Ratio in Bipolar Disorder

Laura Fusar-Poli et al.

Summary: This study found that inflammatory markers in blood, particularly PLR, were significantly higher in (hypo)manic patients compared to depressed patients. PLR may serve as an independent predictor of (hypo)mania, suggesting that inflammatory markers could explain the onset and recurrence of mood episodes in BD patients. Further research is needed to clarify the role of inflammatory ratios as peripheral biomarkers of BD mood episodes.

Transferring clinically established immune inflammation markers into exercise physiology: focus on neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio and systemic immune-inflammation index

David Walzik et al.

Summary: The markers NLR, PLR and SII have emerged as valuable tools for depicting exercise-induced inflammation, showing potential applications in assessing exercise strain, recovery status, and risk of overtraining and infection. Further research is needed to establish reference values, assess kinetics and reliability in response to different exercise modalities, and implement these markers in clinical exercise trials to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of chronic exercise.

Preoperative Platelet to Albumin Ratio Predicts Outcome of Patients with Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer

Manman Guo et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the platelet to albumin ratio (PAR) is a predictive biomarker for survival outcomes in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and it serves as an independent prognostic factor. Notably, higher values of PAR were associated with poor survival outcomes.
