Improvement of Signs and Symptoms of Nonradiographic Axial Spondyloarthritis in Patients Treated With Secukinumab: Primary Results of a Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Phase III Study

Atul Deodhar et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that secukinumab 150 mg provides significant and sustained improvement in patients with active nonradiographic axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) through 52 weeks. The safety profile is consistent with previous reports.

Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (DISH) and a Possible Inflammatory Component

Reuven Mader et al.

Summary: Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (DISH) is considered a metabolic condition with possible involvement of inflammation as a non-metabolic mechanism. Inflammation may play a role in promoting new bone formation in DISH, and further research is needed to better understand the mechanisms for early detection and management.

Data-driven definitions for active and structural MRI lesions in the sacroiliac joint in spondyloarthritis and their predictive utility

Walter P. Maksymowych et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine quantitative cut-offs for SI joint MRI lesions typical of inflammatory and structural lesions in axSpA, which can predict clinical diagnosis. The results showed that cut-offs for MRI findings specific to axSpA had PPVs greater than or equal to 95% for clinical diagnosis. Thus, the proposed cut-offs can be used for disease classification and clinical research to improve the diagnostic accuracy for axSpA.

Diagnostic delay in axial spondyloarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Sizheng Steven Zhao et al.

Summary: This study found that there is a significant global variation in delay to diagnosis for axial SpA patients, with longer delays reported in high-income countries compared to middle-income countries. Patient factors like lower education levels, younger age at symptom onset, and absence of extra-articular manifestations are associated with longer delays. In contrast, the diagnostic delay for PsA patients is significantly shorter.
