Role of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors (PPARs) in Trophoblast Functions

Lin Peng et al.

Summary: PPARs play vital roles in pregnancy, and dysfunctions of PPARs may lead to various related pregnancy diseases such as recurrent miscarriage and preeclampsia. This review discusses the impact of regulating PPARs on trophoblast physiological conditions and explores the underlying mechanisms of PPARs in controlling pregnancy-related processes.

Association between Z-score for birth weight and postoperative outcomes in neonates and infants with congenital heart disease

Martina A. Steurer et al.

Summary: This study reveals that infants with fetal growth restrictions are at increased risk of mortality and morbidity after congenital heart disease surgery, with the strongest association found in early-term infants. Even slightly below average birth weight Z-scores are independent risk factors for poor surgical outcomes in infants.

Placenta morphology and biomarkers in pregnancies with congenital heart disease - A systematic review

Maartje C. Snoep et al.

Summary: Impaired placentation is a significant factor contributing to intra-uterine growth restriction and pre-eclampsia in fetuses with congenital heart defects (CHD), potentially linked to delayed neurodevelopment in CHD cases. Studies have shown that CHD cases have lower placental weight and a higher incidence of microscopic placental abnormalities.
