Optimization of high-solid enzymatic hydrolysis of two-step alkaline and dilute acid-pretreated sugarcane bagasse at low enzyme loadings by response surface methodology

Longinus Ifeanyi Igbojionu et al.

Summary: This study optimized the enzymatic digestibility of sugarcane bagasse through a two-step alkaline and acid pretreatment, resulting in high glucose yields. The process parameters were optimized using response surface methodology, and the glucose yield achieved was close to the predicted value. This study highlights the potential of efficient fermentable sugar production from sugarcane bagasse.

Disruption of the Trichoderma reesei gul1 gene stimulates hyphal branching and reduces broth viscosity in cellulase production

Qinqin Zhao et al.

Summary: Disruption of the gul1 gene in Trichoderma reesei led to increased lateral branching of hyphae and smaller mycelial clumps, as well as significantly lower viscosity of fermentation broth and a 22% improvement in cellulase production. Transcriptome analysis revealed differential expression of genes encoding cell wall remodeling enzymes and hydrophobins in the Delta gul1 strain. This study suggests that the regulatory role of gul1 in cell morphogenesis is likely conserved in filamentous fungi.
