Discovery and characterization of circulating tumor cell clusters in neuroendocrine tumor patients using nanosubstrate-embedded microchips

Na Sun et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the feasibility of using NanoVelcro Chips to simultaneously detect single CTCs and CTC clusters in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), as well as to investigate their potential role as biomarkers for monitoring patient response after peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT). Preliminary findings suggest that both CTC clusters and single CTCs may offer a potential noninvasive option for monitoring treatment response in NET patients undergoing PRRT.

Microfluidic chip for rapid and selective isolation of tumor-derived extracellular vesicles for early diagnosis and metastatic risk evaluation of breast cancer

Hogyeong Gwak et al.

Summary: A novel microfluidic chip was used to selectively isolate epithelial and mesenchymal cell-derived EVs, generating an EMT index for investigating the clinical relevance in breast cancer patients. The EMT index produced from the chip showed good agreement with the conventional tissue-based index and was significantly higher in patients with aggressive subtypes. Patients with high EMT index scores (>= 5) were more likely to experience recurrence within 5 years post-treatment. Prediction of metastatic risk based on the EMT index using the microfluidic chip could be beneficial for cancer diagnosis and prognosis.

Ultradense Erythrocyte Bionic Layer Used to Capture Circulating Tumor Cells and Plasma-Assisted High-Purity Release

Taoye Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a cost-effective strategy for isolating rare circulating tumor cells (CTCs) with high efficiency and purity by modifying red blood cells (RBCs) with tumor-targeting molecules, neutralizing charges, and enhancing deformability. The engineered RBCs form a dense bionic layer to inhibit the nonspecific adhesion of leukocytes, achieving over 80% capture efficiency and over 70% release rate. This method shows promise for clinical practice and future biomedical studies.

Xuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The efficient recognition of circulating tumor cells using a biomimetic sea urchin-like nanoprobe resulted in 100% capture of CTCs and a sorting separation rate of 93.6% at a flow rate of 60 muL min(-1). The dual-aptamer nanoprobe showed improved binding efficiency by more than 200% and 73.8 +/- 5.0% measurement efficiency for single CTCs.
