Impact of Epigenetic Alterations in the Development of Oral Diseases

Rodopi Emfietzoglou et al.

Summary: Epigenetic mechanisms play a significant role in the pathogenesis of oral diseases, including Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma, pulpitis, periodontitis, dental caries, and congenital orofacial malformations. These mechanisms involve promoter methylation, abnormal expression of microRNAs, and histone modifications. Epigenetic changes not only affect the aggressiveness of cancers, but also regulate cytokine production, contributing to the development of dental caries and orofacial malformations.

Triclosan induces apoptosis in Burkitt lymphoma-derived BJAB cells through caspase and JNK/MAPK pathways

Mohammad A. Alfhili et al.

Summary: This study investigates the antitumor properties of Triclosan (TCS) in Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) cells, showing that TCS induce cell death through various mechanisms such as membrane phospholipid scrambling, compromised permeability, and activation of caspase and JNK MAPK signaling pathways. This research identifies TCS as a potential antitumor agent with insights into its molecular mechanisms of action in BL cells.

Triclosan affects the expression of nitric oxide synthases (NOSs), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR?), and nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-?B) in mouse neocortical neurons in vitro

Konrad A. Szychowski et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the effects of TCS on the expression of mouse neuronal genes and investigate its relationship with PPAR?, NF-?B, and NOS isoforms. The results showed that TCS alters the expression of multiple genes in neurons and may have effects possibly caused by high levels of ROS. Additionally, both ?NF and ?NF were found to modulate the effects of TCS in primary cultures of mouse cortical neurons.

DNA methylation in oral squamous cell carcinoma: from its role in carcinogenesis to potential inhibitor drugs

Carolina Simao Flausino et al.

Summary: DNA methylation, along with its relationship with oral carcinogenesis, is currently a well-studied epigenetic change. High expression of DNA methyltransferases in oral cancer may lead to inactivation of important tumor suppressor genes, influencing tumor development and prognosis. Inhibitor drugs have been developed to regulate DNA methyltransferase overexpression in oral cancer treatments.

Triclosan regulates the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway through the PI3K/Akt/JNK signaling cascade to induce oxidative damage in neurons

Dan Wang et al.

Summary: Triclosan (TCS), a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent, is recognized as an environmental endocrine disruptor causing pollution and potential threat to human health. This study found that TCS-induced oxidative damage in HT-22 neurons is associated with the activation of the PI3K/Akt/JNK/Nrf2/HO-1 signaling cascade.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the biological properties of an extract obtained from blueberry fruit waste, showing high antioxidant activity and protection against oxidative stress. The results will serve as a basis for further research on producing diet supplements and functional foods with increased antioxidant activity using the extract. Additionally, the study contributes to the sustainable idea of utilizing waste material more efficiently.
