High-Throughput and Combinatorial Approaches for the Development of Multifunctional Polymers

Summary: The high-throughput development of new multifunctional polymers is achieved through the combination of different high-throughput tools established in polymer sciences over the past decade. Important advances include robotic/high-throughput synthesis of polymer libraries, high-throughput characterization of polymers, and the application of spatially resolved polymer library formats. High-throughput polymer synthesis allows the generation of material libraries with combinatorial design motifs, while high-throughput characterization enables rapid assessment of complementary properties and determination of important surface parameters. Current methods and limitations of high-throughput robotic synthesis and characterization of multifunctional polymers are presented and discussed.
