The phytochemical research on Salvinia natans led to the isolation of 11 compounds, including eight new compounds found for the first time in the Salvinia genus. The study also introduced the chemotaxonomic significance of these isolates.
The phytochemical research on Salvinia natans (L.) All. resulted in the isolation of 11 compounds, subdivided into four steroids (1-4), three megastigmanes (5-7), two lignans (8 and 9), one phenanthrene (10), and one nepe-tolactone derivative (11). The structures of these compounds were elucidated mainly by NMR spectroscopic analysis and comparison with the published data. All these compounds were isolated for the first time from S. natans. Among them, eight compounds (3-6 and 8-11) were found from the Salvinia genus for the first time. Meanwhile, the study introduced the chemotaxonomic significance of these isolates.
