MESA Models with Magnetic Braking

Seth Gossage et al.

Summary: Two magnetic braking models are implemented in MESA for use in the MIST stellar model grids, but the detailed physics behind magnetic braking are uncertain. While each model tested can reproduce aspects of the data, neither fully accounts for the observations, suggesting the need for further improvement. The study also indicates a missing mass dependency in these braking models to better match the rotation periods observed in clusters older than 1 Gyr.

Testing the Limits of Precise Subgiant Characterization with APOGEE and Gaia: Opening a Window to Unprecedented Astrophysical Studies

Diego Godoy-Rivera et al.

Summary: Thoroughly characterized subgiant stars on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram are important for astrophysical studies, particularly in the context of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission. In this work, stellar properties of 347 subgiants were inferred using classical constraints and asteroseismic data sets, providing insights into mass and age determination. The study also revealed discrepancies in extinction estimation using 3D maps for nearby stars.

The GALAH survey: effective temperature calibration from the InfraRed Flux Method in the Gaia system

Luca Casagrande et al.

Summary: By utilizing Gaia and 2MASS photometry in the InfraRed Flux Method, this study analyzed over 360,000 stars in the GALAH DR3 survey and derived colour-effective temperature relations considering metallicity and surface gravity effects. The internal uncertainty of these calibrations is around 40-80K, providing valuable insights into stellar properties. The precision and accuracy of these calibrations were validated against solar-twins, Gaia benchmark stars, and the latest interferometric measurements, supporting their reliability across different spectral types.

The K2 M67 Study: Precise Mass for a Turnoff Star in the Old Open Cluster M67

Eric L. Sandquist et al.

Summary: The study of the bright detached eclipsing main-sequence binary WOCS 11028 in the open cluster M67 provides precise mass measurements due to strong constraint on orbital inclination. The measurements are in disagreement with solar metallicity evolution models, suggesting the need for higher metal abundances. Changes to model physics may be required to address these discrepancies, with diffusion and reduced strength convective overshooting being potential factors to consider. At super-solar bulk metallicity, various indicators point to a cluster age between 3.5 and 4.0 Gyr.
