A new benchmark of soft X-ray transition energies of Ne, CO2, and SF6: paving a pathway towards ppm accuracy

J. Stierhof et al.

Summary: Accurate knowledge of transition energies is crucial for the correct interpretation of high-resolution X-ray spectra. In this study, we investigated the K-shell features of Ne, CO2, and SF6 gases by measuring their photo ion-yield spectra and comparing them to ab initio calculations. Our results showed good agreement with previous measurements for CO2, but large discrepancies for Ne and SF6, potentially due to systematic effects. Combining absolute and relative calibration techniques could further improve the accuracy of these measurements.

K-Shell photoabsorption in Si11+: Relativistic contributions via Breit-Pauli R-matrix calculations

M. F. Hasoglu et al.

Summary: In investigating the Si isonuclear sequence for x-ray spectral diagnostics, particular attention is paid to the stable Li-like Si11+ ion. R-matrix calculations are conducted for the photoabsorption cross section of Si11+, incorporating relativistic contributions to improve accuracy in x-ray spectral modeling data banks. Relativistic effects, such as spin-orbit splitting and global shifts of energies, are found to be manageable and significant for this purpose.

CODATA recommended values of the fundamental physical constants: 2018

Eite Tiesinga et al.

Summary: The self-consistent values of physics and chemistry constants recommended by CODATA for 2018 are reported, with discussions on major improvements and inconsistencies. Many constants have reduced uncertainties or exact values due to the transition to the revised SI. However, inconsistencies remain for the gravitational constant and the muon magnetic-moment anomaly.

Role of L-shell single and double core-hole production and decay in m-fold (1 ≤ m ≤ 6) photoionization of the Ar+ ion

A. Mueller et al.

Summary: The study investigates multiple ionization of the Ar+ ion by a single photon in a specific photon energy range, measuring absolute partial cross sections and observing narrow excitation resonances. High resolution studies on double excitations and comparisons between theoretical and experimental results reveal remarkable agreement with hints of additional ionization mechanisms. The experiment was conducted using the PIPE setup at DESY in Hamburg, supported by theoretical calculations.

Near L-edge Single and Multiple Photoionization of Doubly Charged Iron Ions

Stefan Schippers et al.

Summary: Using the photon-ion merged-beams technique at a synchrotron light source, relative cross sections for single and up to five-fold photoionization of Fe2+ ions in the energy range of 690-920 eV were measured. Theoretical calculations showed good agreement with experimental data when energy shifts were applied and assumptions were made about the initial experimental population. Extensive calculations of Auger cascades from removing electrons from the 2p subshell of Fe2+ led to better agreement with the measured product-charge-state distributions.
