Tracing Accretion onto Herbig Ae/Be Stars Using the Brγ Line

Sierra L. Grant et al.

Summary: Accretion in intermediate-mass, pre-main-sequence Herbig Ae/Be stars was characterized to search for correlations with system properties. A positive correlation between Br gamma and stellar luminosity was found, with a change in slope between Herbig Aes and Bes. Accretion luminosity and rate were found to depend on stellar mass and age, but the trend disappeared when normalized by stellar luminosity. The dust structure of the disk was found to have no impact on accretion.

The GRAVITY young stellar object survey: IV. The CO overtone emission in 51 Oph at sub-au scales

M. Koutoulaki et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the circumstellar environment of the star 51 Oph, aiming to obtain the physical and geometrical properties of the system by spatially resolving the inner gaseous disc. Using the Very Large Telescope Interferometer instrument GRAVITY, the researchers found that the CO emission is located within the dust-free region of the inner disc, contrary to conventional disc models of Herbig AeBe stars. This suggests the necessity of ad hoc models to compute the properties of the dust-free inner disc.

Summary: High-resolution observations of CO isotopologue lines using ALMA Large Program revealed significant variations in CO gas column density profiles among five protoplanetary disks, with distributions matching well with viscous disk models. The study also found correlations between CO gas gaps and continuum gap locations, as well as depths of gaps consistent with predictions of planet-disk interactions.

Molecules with ALMA at Planet-forming Scales (MAPS). III. Characteristics of Radial Chemical Substructures

Charles J. Law et al.

Summary: The study reveals the existence of a large number of different chemical substructures in protoplanetary disks, which can be found at different radii. Most of these chemical substructures coincide spatially with dust substructures in the inner regions of the disks, while some cannot be directly linked to dust substructures. This suggests that chemical substructures could represent different disk characteristics and influence the environment in which planets assemble.

Summary: Constraining the distribution of gas and dust in the inner regions of protoplanetary disks is challenging, but using the sensitivity of the ALMA MAPS program can reveal important relationships between gas and dust. Observations of IM Lup, GM Aur, AS 209, and HD 163296 disks show different patterns of gas and dust distribution, providing insights into key processes in planet formation.

Photoevaporative Dispersal of Protoplanetary Disks around Evolving Intermediate-mass Stars

Summary: The study reveals that the far-ultraviolet, extreme-ultraviolet, and X-ray luminosities of intermediate-mass stars undergo orders of magnitude changes within a few million years, leading to significant evolution in the photoevaporation rate. Therefore, it is concluded that stellar evolution plays a crucial role in the evolution of protoplanetary disks around intermediate-mass stars.

Summary: The study analyzed the CO gas emission of the HD 141569 star, finding no evidence of the previously reported asymmetry and suggesting a Keplerian, axisymmetric emitting region. The possibility of orbital features in the inner disk leading to an evolving emission profile over time was raised.
