The observed multiplicity properties of B-type stars in the Galactic young open cluster NGC6231

G. Banyard et al.

Summary: Through multi-epoch optical spectroscopy of 80 B-type stars in the NGC 6231 cluster, we found that the observed spectroscopic binary fraction is approximately 33%, while the true spectroscopic binary fraction is around 52%. Out of the 20 systems with orbital solutions, their orbital parameter distributions are similar to B-type and O-type stars in both the galaxy and the Large Magellanic Cloud.

The homogeneous characterisation of Ariel host stars

Camilla Danielski et al.

Summary: The Ariel mission will study the chemical and thermal properties of around a thousand exoplanets as they transit their host star(s), providing a representative picture of exoplanet chemistry and its relation to the host star's type and chemical environment. Accurate determination of the host star's fundamental properties is crucial for understanding the underlying essence of these planetary systems.

Probing the interior physics of stars through asteroseismology

C. Aerts

Summary: High-precision brightness measurements collected over years using telescopes in space have enabled astronomers to study the physics of stellar interiors through nonradial oscillations. The field of asteroseismology has provided new insights into how stars rotate and evolve chemically. Data-driven space asteroseismology has significantly improved computer models of star evolution, which are crucial for various research fields in space science and have potential applications in the search for extraterrestrial life and studies of supernova progenitors.

Mapping luminous hot stars in the Galaxy

E. Zari et al.

Summary: Luminous hot stars play a crucial role in the energy input to the interstellar medium and serve as tracers of star formation. A comprehensive sample of OBA-type stars is designed, analyzed, and compared with other catalogues to reveal the spatial distribution and dynamics of young stars in the Milky Way, showing a complex structure with over-densities associated with spiral arms. The combination of spectroscopic data from SDSS-V and future Gaia releases will be essential in understanding the dynamics of spiral arms.

Binary fraction of O and B-type stars from LAMOST data

Feng Luo et al.

Summary: Binary stars, particularly O and B-type stars, were investigated in this study using LAMOST DR5 data. The binary fraction was estimated through cross-correlation methods, and the result showed a binary fraction of 0.37(-0.03)(+0.03) for samples with at least two observations.

A homogeneous spectroscopic analysis of a Kepler legacy sample of dwarfs for gravity-mode asteroseismology

Sarah Gebruers et al.

Summary: The study aims to create an optimal sample for joint asteroseismic and spectroscopic stellar modeling using high-resolution spectroscopy, and to provide additional observational input for modeling the envelope layers of non-radially pulsating dwarfs. The results suggest overestimation of metallicity for F-type dwarfs in the literature, and a hint of deep mixing in B-type stars based on C and O abundance ratios.

Internal mixing of rotating stars inferred from dipole gravity modes

May G. Pedersen et al.

Summary: Observations of 26 rotating stars with masses between 3 and 10 solar masses reveal a wide range of internal mixing levels, with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles showing the best asteroseismic performance. This study provides observational guidance for three-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations of transport processes in the deep interiors of stars, based on gravity modes probing the stars' deep interiors near the convective core. The internal mixing levels in the analyzed stars are unexpectedly varied and are best reproduced with models incorporating radially stratified mixing profiles.

Galactic spiral structure revealed by Gaia EDR3

E. Poggio et al.

Summary: By utilizing astrometry and integrated photometry data from the Gaia Early Data Release 3, this study maps the density variations of young upper main sequence (UMS) stars, open clusters, and classical Cepheids in the Galactic disc, revealing the location and extent of spiral arm segments. The resulting maps show large-scale arches with over-dense regions matching the distribution of bright open clusters, while the geometry of the arms in the III quadrant differs significantly from previous models, suggesting a larger pitch angle for the Perseus arm and a longer extent of the Local Arm.

The young massive SMC cluster NGC330 seen by MUSE II. Multiplicity properties of the massive-star population

J. Bodensteiner et al.

Summary: Observations of massive stars in open clusters younger than 8 Myr show that a majority are in binary systems, most of which will interact during their life. Studying populations of massive stars older than 20 Myr allows us to probe the outcome of these interactions. The study in NGC330 reveals differences in spectroscopic binary fractions among stars of different evolutionary stages.

Weighing stars from birth to death: mass determination methods across the HRD

Aldo Serenelli et al.

Summary: The mass of a star is crucial for its structure, evolution, and final fate, with various methods in astronomy available to estimate or determine it. This includes both direct and model-independent approaches, as well as indirect and model-dependent methods, along with the emerging field of quantitative asteroseismology. Different evolutionary stages of stars have corresponding methods, leading to a comprehensive list of benchmark stars with recommended combination of methods for determining a "mass-ladder" for stars.

Cycle-StarNet: Bridging the Gap between Theory and Data by Leveraging Large Data Sets

Teaghan O'Briain et al.

Summary: Advancements in stellar spectroscopy data acquisition have led to the development of a hybrid generative domain-adaptation method that transforms simulated stellar spectra into realistic ones, bridging the gap between theory and observations. Two case studies demonstrate the calibration and identification capabilities of the method, showing improved fitting results and the recovery of missing spectral lines in synthetic modeling. This approach has the potential for application in various fields with large data sets that are limited by modeling accuracy.
