Efforts to regenerate cardiomyocytes using growth factors and stem cells have largely failed due to their short half-lives and rapid clearance. A study fused biofunctional peptides with angiogenic potential to bioengineered mussel adhesive protein, leading to better preservation of cardiac muscle and heart remodeling in a rat MI model.

Summary: The study developed core-shell nanofibrous scaffolds based on chitosan with antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, encapsulating Satureja mutica or Oliveria decumbens essential oils. The scaffolds exhibited uniform structure, good mechanical properties, enhanced antioxidant activity, and broadened antimicrobial activity when loaded with essential oils. These results suggest that the CS/PVA/EO-PVP/MD nanofibrous scaffolds are promising candidates for wound dressing applications.

Summary: "Inspired by the natural topological structure of skeletal muscle tissue, bionic scaffolds with various microgroove topographies were fabricated and studied for their effects on skeletal muscle cell behaviors, especially myogenic differentiation. The results showed that the width of microgroove structures had a stronger effect on myogenic differentiation compared to their depth, with wider grooves enhancing myoblast differentiation. The integrin-mediated focal adhesion kinase signaling pathway and MAPK signaling pathway were activated in response to the external topological structure, indicating a potential mechanism for regulating cellular response in skeletal muscle tissue engineering."
