Infant Mortality Associated With Prenatal Opioid Exposure

JoAnna K. Leyenaar et al.

Summary: Health outcomes of opioid-exposed infants, particularly those not diagnosed with neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS), are limited. This study found that infants exposed to opioids not diagnosed with NOWS had a higher mortality rate compared to those diagnosed with NOWS. Different medical interventions may affect the survival rate of these infants.

Half Century Since SIDS: A Reappraisal of Terminology

Carrie K. Shapiro-Mendoza et al.

Summary: Effective communication and consistent terminology are crucial when dealing with sudden infant deaths, as they help families understand the cause of death and facilitate monitoring trends and developing interventions. Inconsistent terminology can lead to confusion and hinder progress in diagnosing and preventing these tragic events.
