Satellite radar interferometry: Potential and limitations for structural assessment and monitoring

Diego Alejandro Talledo et al.

Summary: The paper analyzes the potential and limitations of DInSAR techniques for structural monitoring and assessment, proposing a comprehensive approach for processing and interpreting satellite radar interferometry data. It discusses the main issues of DInSAR measurements for structural applications, as well as the analysis of displacement time series and deformation velocities for single construction.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential utility of satellite data derived from remote sensing techniques for structural health monitoring of reinforced concrete buildings affected by landslides. This methodology can be quickly applied to a large number of reinforced concrete buildings for landslide risk reduction in civil protection programs.

Seismic performance of circular reinforced concrete columns subjected to compression, bending and torsion with low and moderate shear span ratio

Chiyu Jiao et al.

Summary: This paper investigated the seismic performance of columns under combined actions with low and moderate shear-span ratio through experimental research and theoretical analysis. The findings show that an increase in torsional effect and shear effect will raise the failure height of piers, weakening their energy dissipation capacity and bearing capacity. By introducing a concrete improvement coefficient beta and deducing a formula for torsional bearing capacity, the proposed model was found to accurately calculate the bearing capacity of piers under combined actions with low and moderate shear-span ratio.

Empirical calibration of hysteretic parameters for modelling the seismic response of reinforced concrete columns with plain bars

Mariano Di Domenico et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the hysteretic response of ductile Reinforced Concrete (RC) columns with plain bars, investigating the dependence of hysteretic parameters on potential predictors and calibrating parameters describing the cyclic response. It was observed that using a model specifically dedicated to columns with deformed bars for predicting the cyclic response of columns with plain bars may lead to significant overestimation of the response and underestimation of the displacement capacity.
