Effect of sample type and the use of high or low fishmeal diets on bacterial communities in the gastrointestinal tract of Penaeus monodon

T. H. Noble et al.

Summary: The study found significant differences in bacterial communities in shrimp GI tract between high and low fishmeal diets, with enrichment of Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes in shrimp fed with low fishmeal diet. Stomach and digesta communities in shrimp were more sensitive to diet, while intestine tissue community was less affected. The feed pellets may serve as a significant source of bacteria observed in shrimp GI samples.

Feed intake, gastro-intestinal transit and haemolymph free amino acids in the shrimp Penaeus monodon are influenced by marine meal supplementation

Ha H. Truong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different dietary ingredients on feed intake, digesta travel rate, and post-prandial concentration of free amino acids in the haemolymph of Penaeus monodon. The results showed that diets with whole squid meal (SQ) and microbial Novacg (TM) (NQ) could increase feed intake and haemolymph free amino acid concentration. Krill meal (KM) had the highest amino acid concentration at 10 minutes and all diets showed a convergence of haemolymph free amino acids by 30 minutes.
