Re-aliment regains feed deprivation-induced microflora dysbiosis and immune stress in the gut of red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii)

Minglang Cai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in gut microbial community and immunity of red swamp crayfish under different nutritional states. Starvation increased the number and abundance of microbial species, while re-feeding restored them. Starvation disrupted the stability of the gut microbial community, while re-feeding helped restore the balance. Re-feeding also reversed the negative effects of starvation on immunity and gut health.

Intervention of re-feeding on growth performance, fatty acid composition and oxidative stress in the muscle of red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) subjected to short-term starvation

Minglang Cai et al.

Summary: The study found that starvation slowed down the growth of Procambarus clarkii and significantly decreased the saturated fatty acids contents in the muscle. Refeeding after starvation could reverse the negative impacts of starvation on muscle quality, promote the growth of crayfish, and enhance its ability to scavenge oxidative free radicals.
