This study prepared CsBi2Ta5O16 as a photocatalyst for the first time and investigated its ability to convert CO2 and H2O into value-added products through photocatalysis. NiO-loaded CsBi2Ta5O16 composites showed efficient photocatalytic conversion of CO2 into CH4 and CO, and oxidation of H2O to O-2. The enhanced CO2 photocatalytic conversion was attributed to the adsorption and activation of CO2 on NiO. This work provides a design idea for a photocatalyst that enables the full reaction of CO2 with H2O.
The photocatalytic conversion of CO2 and H2O into a series of value-added products is regarded as an important way to mimic natural photosynthesis for solar harvesting. Herein, we prepared CsBi2Ta5O16 with a cubic pyrochlore structure via high-temperature molten salt method as a photocatalyst for the first time. The NiO-loaded CsBi2Ta(5)O(16) composites could efficiently photocatalyze the conversion of CO2 into CH4 and CO, and oxidize H2O to O-2. With 10 wt% NiO loading, the highest yield of CH4 (7.24 mu mol g(-1)h(-1)) and O-2 (3.59 mu mol g(-1)h(-1))could be achieved. The adsorption and activation of CO2 molecule on NiO can be attributed to the enhanced CO2 photocatalytic conversion by the NiO-loaded CsBi2Ta5O16 composites. This work provides a design idea of photocatalyst for the full reaction of CO2 with H2O.
