Controlled synthesis of tungsten trioxide with globular clusters constructed of nanoplates by rapid breakdown anodization

Shizhao Wu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the electrochemical synthesis of tungsten trioxide (WO3) with globular clusters composed of nanoplates. The tungsten foil anode was efficiently electro-oxidized into WO3 nanoplates-aggregated globular clusters powder under a breakdown anodization potential of 25 V at 50 degrees C. The growth of WO3 nanoplates is suggested to be initiated by localized anodic dielectric breakdown, followed by crystal growth in the electrolyte at high breakdown field.

Molecular simulation study on the wettability of a surface corrugated with trapezoidal nanopillars

Mengdi Zhao et al.

Summary: The study investigates the wettability of a surface patterned with trapezoidal nanopillars using all-atom molecular dynamics simulation. The dewetting and wetting of the gap between pillars are related to macroscopic water states on the pillared surface. By varying the pore structure, the stability of different states and the free energy barriers for wetting and dewetting transitions were estimated, identifying reentrant pillars as the best geometry for superhydrophobic surfaces.

Avik Samanta et al.

Summary: An innovative laser-assisted functionalization method is proposed to fabricate a superhydrophobic-superhydrophilic patterned surface on a large-area metal alloy, with two different strategies demonstrated. Adjusting laser parameters allows for surface topography patterning and anti-reflection surface properties to be achieved. This method decouples extreme wettability from surface topography, showing simplicity, robustness, and feasibility.

Dynamic characteristics of droplet impingement on carbon nanotube array surfaces with varying wettabilities

Minchen Zhou et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated water droplet impingement behaviors on carbon nanotube (CNT) array surfaces with varying wettabilities. Different dynamic behaviors of droplet impact were observed and a droplet regime map was developed for different wettabilities. The reduction in post-impact contact angles and enhanced wettability were mainly attributed to self-assembly structures caused by capillary action during spreading.
