The remarkably enhanced visible-light-photocatalytic activity of hydrothermally synthesized WO3 nanorods: An effect of Gd doping

T. Govindaraj et al.

Summary: Novel Gadolinium doped WO3 nanorods (Gd@WO3 NRs) were synthesized through a facile hydrothermal method and showed significant enhancement in photocatalytic activity, especially with 5 wt% Gd doping which improved the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Recycling test confirmed the stability of the photocatalyst after three cycles, making Gd@WO3 NRs a superior catalyst for reducing organic pollutants.

Fabrication of two-phase WO3 nanorod photoelectrode and its enhanced photoinduced cathodic protection performance

Jing Tian et al.

Summary: In this study, two-phase WO3 photoelectrodes with different morphologies were obtained by controlling the concentration of Na2WO4 in the precursor solution, and their performance in photoinduced cathodic protection (CP) was explored. The heterojunctions formed between hexagonal and monoclinic WO3 contribute to the directional separation of photogenerated carriers. Additionally, the ordered growth of WO3 nanorods perpendicular to Ti substrate facilitates the directional transmission of photogenerated carriers, resulting in good photoinduced CP performance.

Nickel-doped monoclinic WO3 as high performance anode material for rechargeable lithium ion battery

Mohadese Rastgoo-Deylami et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of nickel doping on monoclinic tungsten trioxide (mWO(3)) as an anode electrode for lithium ion batteries (LIBs) was investigated. The experimental results showed that 10 wt% nickel doping led to the highest improvements in electrochemical performance of mWO(3), including higher electrochemical capacities, good cycle life, and better rate capability. These enhancements were attributed to the spherical morphology of nanoparticles and the high electrical conductivity provided by nickel doping, which facilitated lithium-ion diffusion and electron transfer in the monoclinic structure of WO3. The reported anode electrode exhibited excellent properties in LIBs for various energy storage applications.

Summary: An alternative facile method integrating electro-exploding wire and spray coating techniques is demonstrated for applications in large size ECDs. The varied size distribution of WO3 nanomaterials is achieved by changing the exploding voltage. The WO3 NM films prepared at a high exploding voltage and a high substrate temperature present a higher electrochemical stability for over 1000 cycles.

Direct Z-scheme WO3-x nanowire-bridged TiO2 nanorod arrays for highly efficient photoelectrochemical overall water splitting

Sheng Lin et al.

Summary: A direct Z-scheme photoelectrocatalytic electrode based on a WO3-x nanowire-bridged TiO2 nanorod array heterojunction was constructed for overall water splitting and hydrogen evolution. The WO3-x/TiO2 heterojunction exhibited superior photoelectrochemical activity, achieving high rates of hydrogen and oxygen evolution without the need for sacrificial agents or redox mediators. The efficient charge transfer pathway between WO3-x nanowires and TiO2 nanorods, presence of oxygen vacancies in WO3-x, and applied bias potential on the photoelectrode all contributed to the superior overall water splitting performance.
