Investigating the molecular structure of plasma in type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy by synchrotron Fourier-transform infrared microspectroscopy

Refat Nimer et al.

Summary: In this study, SR-FTIR microspectroscopy was used to identify molecular changes in the lipid and protein regions in the plasma of patients with different stages of DN and patients with T2DM without DN. The results showed different conformational changes in protein secondary structure between DN stages and between DN and T2DM groups. End-stage DN group exhibited the highest oxidation state compared to other DN stages.

Single-Cell Infrared Microspectroscopy Quantifies Dynamic Heterogeneity of Mesenchymal Stem Cells during Adipogenic Differentiation

Yadi Wang et al.

Summary: A method based on single-cell FTIR microspectroscopy was developed to quantitatively evaluate cellular heterogeneity by calculating the cell-to-cell similarity distance, revealing that infrared phenotypes may reflect dynamic heterogeneity changes in cell populations. This provides an alternative label-free optical approach for quantifying cellular heterogeneity and can be combined with other single-cell analysis tools to understand the genotype-to-phenotype relationship in cellular populations.

Characterization of Insulin Mucoadhesive Buccal Films: Spectroscopic Analysis and In Vivo Evaluation

Maram Diab et al.

Summary: Insulin mucoadhesive buccal films (MBF) are a noninvasive delivery system formulated with chitosan, glycerin, and L-arginine. Stability testing showed retention of insulin structure and in vivo testing revealed a blood glucose-lowering effect in rat models, suggesting MBFs as a promising insulin delivery system.

Characterization of the distributions of collagen and PGs content in the decellularized book-shaped enthesis scaffolds by SR-FTIR

Qiang Shi et al.

Summary: The study successfully obtained decellularized book-shaped enthesis scaffolds from rabbit rotator cuff, evaluated the effect of decellularization on extracellular matrix structure through histological staining and SEM, and found that the content of collagen and PGs in the decellularized scaffolds decreased significantly. This innovative use of SR-FTIR can provide quantitative mapping of collagen and PGs distribution in enthesis scaffolds.

Synchrotron Fourier transform infrared microspectroscopy (sFTIRM) analysis of unfolding behavior of electrospun collagen nanofibers

Murat Kazanci et al.

Summary: Collagen nanofibers are popular materials in regenerative medicine, and in-situ crosslinking during electrospinning process using chemical agents like genipin and glutaraldehyde is suggested for improving their properties. sFTIRM is a powerful tool for analyzing the molecular structure of collagen nanofibers. Among different crosslinkers, in-situ genipin crosslinking process performs better in preserving the native structure of electrospun collagen nanofibers.
