Critical couplings in topological-insulator waveguide-resonator systems observed in elastic waves

Si-Yuan Yu et al.

Summary: Waveguides and resonators are core components in the integration of electronics, photonics, and phononics, with the potential for signal filtering, switching, multiplexing, and sensing. Introducing topological insulators into classical waveguide-ring-resonator configurations can eliminate upstream reflections and retain useful transmission spectral characteristics, offering advantages in novel signal processing, sensing, lasering, energy harvesting, and wave-matter interactions. This study contributes to the confidence in utilizing topological protection for practical device performance, suggesting further research opportunities in advancing phononics/photonics technologies.

Coexistence of Quantum Hall and Quantum Anomalous Hall Phases in Disordered MnBi2Te4

Hailong Li et al.

Summary: Researchers proposed a physical picture based on Anderson localization to explain the observed Hall plateaus in MnBi2Te4, confirming localized bulk states in the absence of a magnetic field and observing a C = 2 phase under a strong magnetic field. Future experiments will verify more coexistence states of QAH and QH.

Higher-order topological semimetal in acoustic crystals

Qiang Wei et al.

Summary: The concept of higher-order topological materials goes beyond first-order topological states, featuring 1D hinge states and 0D corner states. A second-order topological Weyl semimetal has been experimentally demonstrated in a 3D-printed acoustic crystal, showcasing Weyl points, Fermi arc surface states, and hinge states.

Gauge-Induced Floquet Topological States in Photonic Waveguides

Wange Song et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates a gauge-induced topological state localized at the interface between two gauge-shifted Floquet photonic lattices with the same topological order, allowing for asymmetric topological transport and experimental verification in silicon waveguides. This work provides new insights into manipulating optical topological modes through Floquet engineering and opens up possibilities for photonics integrations.

Quantum Dynamical Characterization and Simulation of Topological Phases With High-Order Band Inversion Surfaces

Xiang-Long Yu et al.

Summary: This study introduces the concept of high-order band inversion surfaces for characterizing equilibrium topological phases through far-from-equilibrium quantum dynamics and experimental simulation. By investigating the high-order BISs, it is shown that quantum dynamics can exhibit nontrivial topological patterns during quenching processes, corresponding to and characterizing the equilibrium topological phase. The high-order dynamical bulk-surface correspondence provides new and optimal schemes to detect and simulate topological states.

Dynamically characterizing topological phases by high-order topological charges

Wei Jia et al.

Summary: The theory introduces the concept of high-order topological charges to characterize equilibrium topological phase with nonequilibrium quantum dynamics, predicting novel phenomena. Through a dimension reduction approach, it quantifies a d-dimensional (dD) integer-invariant topological phase with lower dimensional topological number, and demonstrates that the postquench Hamiltonian's bulk topology can be detected through a high-order dynamical bulk-surface correspondence.
