Visualization of dynamic polaronic strain fields in hybrid lead halide perovskites

Burak Guzelturk et al.

Summary: Diffuse X-ray scattering with femtosecond resolution reveals the formation and relaxation of polaronic distortions in halide perovskites. These structural changes are quantified and correlated to transient changes in carrier effective mass.

Polaron Trapping and Migration in Iron-Doped Lithium Niobate

Laura Vittadello et al.

Summary: Photoinduced charge transport in lithium niobate under standard illumination, composition, and temperature conditions involves small polaron hopping on regular or defective lattice sites. Our study, based on Marcus-Holstein's theory, reveals two underlying microscopic mechanisms, direct trapping and migration-accelerated polaron trapping transport. These results help explain experimental observations beyond simple phenomenological models and offer guidance for designing materials according to desired specifications.

Electron Polarons in Lithium Niobate: Charge Localization, Lattice Deformation, and Optical Response

Falko Schmidt et al.

Summary: In this study, different types of electron polarons in lithium niobate are analyzed using first-principles calculations, revealing varying degrees of structural relaxation and energy level changes. These effects ultimately influence the optical properties and absorption spectra in the material.

Polaronic enhancement of second-harmonic generation in lithium niobate

Agnieszka L. Kozub et al.

Summary: Density-functional theory within a Berry-phase formulation is used to determine the second-order susceptibility of lithium niobate. Defect-trapped polarons and bipolarons enhance the nonlinear susceptibility of the material, especially when localized at specific defect pairs. This enhancement is due to the formation of polaronic states inside the band gap, allowing for spatial and transient modification of second-harmonic generation in macroscopic samples through illumination.
