Synthesis, structural elucidation, and density functional theory investigation of new mononuclear Fe(III), Ni(II), and Cu(II) mixed-ligand complexes: Biological and catalase mimicking activity exploration

Aly Abdou et al.

Summary: This study synthesized new metal complexes and characterized their properties. These metal complexes showed interesting geometry variation and exhibited strong antimicrobial activity. One of the metal complexes also showed excellent catalytic activity. A trial was made to establish a structure-activity relationship (SAR) model based on the correlation with practical biological activity data.

Synthesis, characterization, DFT and antibacterial studies of a novel vitamin B6 Schiff base and its Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes

Raheleh Omidinia et al.

Summary: In this project, a novel pyridoxal Schiff base (H2L) and its Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized using experimental methods, with structural parameters, tautomerism, spectral properties and frontier orbitals explored through DFT approaches. The dianionic form of the Schiff base acts as a tetradentate ligand in square geometries for both complexes, coordinating to Cu2+ and Zn2+ metal ions. Good agreement between experimental values and DFT-predicted properties was observed, and AIM analysis was used to characterize bonding interactions. The high yield synthesis of the investigated species was achieved in three cycles using choline chloride based eutectic solvents, which also exhibited great antibacterial activities for the H2L Schiff base among the synthesized compounds.

Design, spectral, thermal, DFT studies, antioxidant and molecular docking studies of pyrazole-based schiff base ligand and its metal (II) complexes

T. Manjuraj et al.

Summary: Metal complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) with a Schiff base derived from pyrazole were synthesized and analyzed. The complexes exhibited different geometries, with Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes having a square planar geometry, while the Co(II) and Zn(II) complex had a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal and octahedral geometry, respectively. The thermogravimetric analysis data and DFT studies provided insights into the decomposition process and molecular properties of the compounds.

J. Jeevitha Rani et al.

Summary: A series of tetradentate N2O2 Schiff base ligands and corresponding Ni(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized. The Ni(II)-salphen complexes showed square planar geometry and non-electrolyte behavior. Density Functional Theory calculations and molecular docking analyses revealed the optimized structures and binding capabilities of these complexes with Bovine Serum Albumin. The Ni(II) complexes exhibited higher inhibitory effect against pathogenic microorganisms and significant anticancer activity, with certain complexes showing better binding affinity and anticancer potency.
