Metal-insulator-metal nano square ring resonator for gas sensing applications

M. A. Butt et al.

Summary: This paper presents three designs of Square Ring resonators (SRR) based on metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguides, where the transmission spectra and electric field distribution of the sensor structure are simulated using finite element method (FEM). The study comprehensively investigates the effect of structural parameters on the spectral characteristics and sensing performance, achieving a maximum sensitivity of 1320 nm/RIU and a figure of merit of 16.7. The high performance and ease of fabrication make these plasmonic structures promising for integrated optical circuits and on-chip nano-sensors.

Hybridization-induced resonances with high-quality factor in a plasmonic chipscale ring-disk nanocavity

Zhaojian Zhang et al.

Summary: A plasmonic resonator with ultra-high Q factor based on MIM waveguide structures has been proposed, utilizing hybridization of plasmon modes in disk and ring cavities. The resonator features ultra-narrow FWHM and high Q factors, enabling potential on-chip applications as a refractive index sensor with high FOM.

Plasmonic sensor based on metal-insulator-metal waveguide square ring cavity filled with functional material for the detection of CO2 gas

S. N. Khonina et al.

Summary: A CO2 gas sensor design based on MIM waveguide and PHMB functional material is numerically investigated, showing high sensitivity and linear response to CO2 gas. The sensor sensitivity is over 7 times higher than silicon photonics-based sensors, attributed to the strong interaction of SPP waves with matter. This work presents a platform with significantly improved sensitivity for toxic gas detection using different functional materials.
