Electrocatalytic reduction of nitrogen on FeAg/Si for ammonia synthesis: A simple strategy for continuous regulation of faradaic efficiency by controlling H+ ions transfer rate

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: By tuning the pore numbers of the membrane in an H-type cell, the transfer rate of H+ ions and the Faradaic efficiency can be linearly regulated, and a physical model has been constructed to reveal the changing mechanism of efficiency. The theoretical results are consistent with experimental ones obtained by using synthetic plasma-enhanced bimetallic catalyst, showing a continuous enhancement of Faradaic efficiency from 9.04% to 41.86%.

Modulating CoFe2O4 nanocube with oxygen vacancy and carbon wrapper towards enhanced electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction to ammonia

Chuang Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the excellent activity and stability of the hollow bimetallic CoFe2O4 nanocube in nitrogen reduction reaction, attributed to improved nitrogen adsorption and activation, unoccupied d orbitals of transition metal components, reformed electronic structure by oxygen vacancies, and electron injection facilitated by conductive carbon wrapper. Both experimental and theoretical investigations confirm the mechanism underlying the enhancement in catalytic activity, making the design strategy of C@CoFe2O4-x nanocube efficient and valid.

In Situ Strong Metal-Support Interaction (SMSI) Affects Catalytic Alcohol Conversion

Felipe Polo-Garzon et al.

Summary: The study reveals that during the catalytic conversion of 2-propanol on Pd/TiO2 at low temperatures, coverage of Pd sites occurs due to the generation of SMSIs. The SMSIs that appear during the reaction fully reverse upon exposure to O-2 at room temperature, which may have contributed to the challenge of identifying them in the past.

A General Strategy to Boost Electrocatalytic Nitrogen Reduction on Perovskite Oxides via the Oxygen Vacancies Derived from A-Site Deficiency

Kaibin Chu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a strategy to enhance NRR activity by modulating oxygen vacancies induced by A-site deficiencies in perovskite oxides. Experimental results show that increasing La-site deficiencies and oxygen vacancies can significantly improve NRR activity, leading to higher NH3 production. The favorable properties of oxygen vacancies include promoting the adsorption/activation of reaction species and optimizing reaction pathways.

Ti2O3 Nanoparticles with Ti3+ Sites toward Efficient NH3 Electrosynthesis under Ambient Conditions

Haijun Chen et al.

Summary: Introducing Ti2O3 nanoparticles as a pure Ti3+ system has shown efficient catalytic performance in NH3 electrosynthesis under ambient conditions, with significantly increased NRR activity. The stable NH3 yield and high Faradaic efficiency of Ti2O3 in acidic electrolyte surpass most titanium-based NRR catalysts reported recently, demonstrating the enhanced electrocatalytic activity originating from Ti3+ active sites.

Strong catalyst support interactions in defect-rich γ-Mo2N nanoparticles loaded 2D-h-BN hybrid for highly selective nitrogen reduction reaction

David Kumar Yesudoss et al.

Summary: The research presents a single-step in-situ nitridation method for growing cubic molybdenum nitride nanoparticles on 2D hexagonal boron nitride sheets as a potential electrocatalyst for Nitrogen Reduction Reaction (NRR). Fine-tuning the N-vacancies on h-BN sheets leads to the highest faradaic efficiency, and the non-noble metal-based hybrids exhibit stable performance. Controlling the defects to design the electronic structure of a catalyst could be an effective practice for selective NRR.

Construction of Cr-embedded graphyne electrocatalyst for highly selective reduction of CO2 to CH4: A DFT study

Ling Fu et al.

Summary: This study explores the electrocatalytic potential of different transition metals in the CO2 reduction reaction, and finds that embedding Cr into graphyne is the most efficient option for producing CH4. Additionally, it is discovered that CO2 is more advantageous for the hydrogen evolution reaction to preferentially occupy the activation site than H2 on Cr-graphyne. These results provide a new path for the development of low-potential electrocatalysts with high activity and selectivity for CO2 reduction.

Summary: A novel hexagonal BN quantum dots (BNQDs) decorated Nb2CTx-MXene (BNQDs@Nb2CTx) has been explored as an efficient NRR catalyst, which shows optimum NRR activity, high Faradaic efficiency, and excellent stability, outperforming most of the state-of-the-art NRR catalysts. The synergistic interplay of BNQDs and Nb2CTx creates unique interfacial B sites serving as NRR catalytic centers, enhancing N-2 activation and impeding H-2 evolution.
