Selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde with NixFe1-xAl2O4+δ composite oxides supported Pt catalysts: C=O versus C=C selectivity switch by varying the Ni/Fe molar ratios

Huiyue Xin et al.

Summary: The study developed NixFe1-xAl2O4+delta spinel composite metal oxides (SCMOs) supported Pt catalysts, which showed activity and selectivity for the selective hydrogenation of CAL. The selectivity switch can be achieved by changing the Ni/(Fe + Ni) molar ratios in NixFe1-xAl2O4+delta SCMOs.

Direct Heterogenization of the Ru-Macho Catalyst for the Chemoselective Hydrogenation of α,β-Unsaturated Carbonyl Compounds

Sudakar Padmanaban et al.

Summary: In this study, a heterogeneous, pincer-type Ru porous organometallic polymer (Ru-Macho-POMP) with a high surface area was prepared via direct heterogenization of a commercially available homogeneous pincer-type complex, Ru-Macho, using dichloromethane as the cross-linker through a Lewis acid-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts reaction. The Ru-Macho-POMP catalyst demonstrated high turnover frequency (TOF = 920 h(-1)), high turnover number (TON = 2750), high chemoselectivity (99%), and recyclability during the selective hydrogenation of alpha, beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds.

Selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde to hydrocinnamaldehyde over Au-Pd/ultrathin SnNb2O6 nanosheets under visible light

Huan Wang et al.

Summary: Au-Pd bimetallic nanoparticles supported on SnNb2O6 ultrathin nanosheets were developed as multifunctional photocatalysts for the selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde under visible light irradiation, showing superior catalytic performance. This is attributed to the synergistic effect of Au, Pd NPs, and Sn. The study provides a reference for novel and more effective photocatalyst design for precise organic synthesis driven by sunlight.

Phytocat - a bio-derived Ni catalyst for rapid de-polymerization of polystyrene using a synergistic approach

Parul Johar et al.

Summary: A novel triple-green approach utilizing microwave irradiation for the de-polymerization of polystyrene and valorization of nickel-contaminated plant biomass is proposed in this study. The presence of bio-derived nickel in the biomass significantly enhances the de-polymerization process, leading to higher conversion efficiencies compared to traditional methods.
