Enzymatic extract of Aspergillus fumigatus CCT 7873 for hydrolysis of sugarcane bagasse and generation of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC)

Sergio Dantas de Oliveira Junior et al.

Summary: In this study, cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were produced from untreated and pretreated sugarcane fibers using enzymatic hydrolysis with a crude cellulolytic extract produced by the fungus Aspergillus fumigatus CCT 7873 through semi-solid fermentation (SSF). The resulting CNC, characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), exhibited a good size distribution with a mean diameter of 61 nm after a hydrolysis time of 48 h, indicating its potential as a highly valuable product from renewable and low-cost lignocellulosic residues.

Solid-state fermentation of stale bread by an edible fungus in a semi-continuous plug-flow bioreactor

Ricky Wang et al.

Summary: Stale bread, a major food waste, was successfully converted into new food products through solid-state fermentation using a plug-flow bioreactor, showing improved productivity compared to batch fermentation. By adjusting residence time and inoculum-to-substrate ratio, the fermentation performance could be effectively controlled, leading to reduced starch content in the substrate.

Statistical analysis of xylanase production from solid state fermentation of rice husk associated fungus Aspergillus niger

Siti Afiqah Razali et al.

Summary: Rice husk is a potential substrate for xylanase production through solid state fermentation, in this study xylanase was produced from Aspergillus niger fungus on rice husk. The optimized xylanase was found to be effective in reducing COD and TS in palm oil mill effluent, showing potential for industrial applications.
