Clinical practice guidelines for high-resolution breast PET, 2019 edition

Yoko Satoh et al.

Summary: Breast positron emission tomography (PET) has been covered by insurance in Japan since 2013, allowing for accurate examination of breast cancer and diagnosis of metastatic disease in conjunction with whole-body PET. Practice guidelines for high-resolution breast PET were first published in 2013 and revised in 2019 to support different types of breast PET scanners and provide useful information for evidence-based breast imaging.

Performance of dedicated breast positron emission tomography in the detection of small and low-grade breast cancer

Satoshi Sueoka et al.

Summary: This study found that dedicated breast positron emission tomography (DbPET) has higher sensitivity in detecting invasive breast cancer, especially in subcentimetric and low-grade tumors, compared to whole body positron emission tomography (WBPET). The maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of DbPET can help distinguish different subtypes of breast cancer, with luminal A-like breast cancer exhibiting lower SUVmax values.

Evaluation of image quality at the detector's edge of dedicated breast positron emission tomography

Summary: The study revealed poorer image quality of dbPET near the detector's edge compared to more central areas. However, in clinical applications, dbPET showed consistent ability to detect breast lesions regardless of lesion location, and performed better than PET/CT.
