A Perspective on Heterogeneous Catalysts for the Selective Oxidation of Alcohols

Sharif Najafishirtari et al.

Summary: Selective oxidation of higher alcohols is essential in the synthesis of fine chemicals, but lacks fundamental understanding due to the complexity of catalysts and reaction conditions. Developing new materials and advanced characterization techniques is crucial to unravel the structure-performance correlations of catalysts and address the complex interplay between solid surfaces, reactants, and solvents.

Reaction pathway investigation using in situ Fourier transform infrared technique over Pt/CuO and Pt/TiO2 for selective glycerol oxidation

Guandong Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the supports themselves could enhance catalyst activity and affect product selectivity. Through experiments on glycerol oxidation, it was observed that doping Pt significantly increased the activity of Pt/CuO and Pt/TiO2 catalysts, with different oxidation selectivity between them. Additionally, in situ FTIR spectra confirmed the specific selectivity of the catalysts.

Insight into the basic strength-dependent catalytic performance in aqueous phase oxidation of glycerol to glyceric acid

Hao Yan et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that alkaline earth metal oxides can enhance the electronic transfer ability, modify the reduction properties of Pt, and create abundant surface oxygen vacancies in Pt/M-MCM-41 catalysts. Additionally, the addition of alkaline earth metal oxides like CaO can promote the activation of primary hydroxyl groups and C-H bonds, leading to excellent catalytic performance. The Pt/Ca-MCM-41 (70) catalyst shows record high turnover frequency values for the oxidation of glucose and xylose to carboxylic acids.
