Salt-Stabilized Silylzinc Pivalates for Nickel-Catalyzed Carbosilylation of Alkenes

Jixin Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the preparation of solid and salt-stabilized silylzinc pivalates from silyllithium reagents via transmetalation with Zn(OPiv)(2) is reported. These organosilylzinc pivalates show unique reactivity in the silylative difunctionalization of alkenes. Based on this, a practical chelation-assisted nickel-catalyzed regioselective alkyl and benzylsilylation of alkenes has been developed, providing an easy method to access alkyl silanes with broad substrate scope and wide functional group compatibility. Kinetic experiments highlight the importance of OPiv-coordination for improving the reactivity of silylzinc pivalates. Furthermore, late-stage functionalizations of druglike molecules and versatile modifications of the products demonstrate the synthetic utility of this protocol.

Synergistic Ni/Cu catalyzed migratory arylsilylation of terminal olefins

Binzhi Zhao et al.

Summary: This article describes a Ni/Cu dual metal-catalyzed arylsilylation reaction for the synthesis of various aliphatic silanes from terminal alkenes, aryl halides and Suginome's reagent. The reaction exhibits excellent regioselectivity, mild conditions and good functional group tolerance, with the added presence of a PyrOx ligand inhibiting side-product formation. Further mechanistic studies suggest the significance of the copper cocatalyst in promoting transmetalation of Suginome's reagent.

Three-Component Ni-Catalyzed Silylacylation of Alkenes

Dongshun Ni et al.

Summary: A Ni-catalyzed silylacylation of alkenes is introduced, providing rapid access to beta-silyl ketones by combining alkenes, CIZnSiR3, and acid chlorides. The method involves a catalytic intermediate of [Ni]-SiR3 complex, which is rare for three-component alkene functionalization. The synthetic utility of the products is demonstrated, along with detailed mechanistic descriptions.

Silylium Ions: From Elusive Reactive Intermediates to Potent Catalysts

Hendrik F. T. Klare et al.

Summary: The history of silyl cations had a dramatic beginning, as they were once considered impossible to isolate in the condensed phase. However, their actual characterization in solution and solid state changed this perception, leading to wide acceptance and promising applications in synthetic chemistry. Silyl cations are known for their enormous electrophilicity and reactivity, making them key compounds in various chemical reactions.

Visible-Light-Mediated Divergent Silylfunctionalization of Alkenes

Ming Zheng et al.

Summary: This study presents a visible-light-mediated divergent 1,2-silylfunctionalization of alkenes under ambient conditions, yielding a variety of silanes including beta-alkoxy, beta-alkylthio, beta-hydroxy, and beta-indolyl silanes. Vinylsilanes were also successfully prepared without the need for an additional nucleophile.

Three-Component Carbosilylation of Alkenes by Merging Iron and Visible-Light Photocatalysis

Sukanya Neogi et al.

Summary: A mild, efficient, and one-pot protocol for three-component carbosilylation of alkenes with imidazoheterocycle and silanes has been developed by merging iron(II) and visible-light photocatalysis. This C-C and C-Si bond-forming method provides functionalized organosilicon derivatives having imidazoheterocycles moieties in good yields. The reaction possibly proceeds through a radical pathway.

Intramolecular Friedel-Crafts alkylation with a silylium-ion-activated cyclopropyl group: formation of tricyclic ring systems from benzyl-substituted vinylcyclopropanes and hydrosilanes

Tao He et al.

Summary: A trityl-cation-initiated annulation of benzyl-substituted vinylcyclopropanes with hydrosilanes has been reported, leading to the formation of new Si-C(sp(3)) and C(sp(2))-C(sp(3)) bonds through intramolecular reactions. The reaction mechanism proposed based on computations is in agreement with experimental observations, resulting in the formation of unprecedented silicon-containing fused ring systems. Another tricycle with a 6/6/6 ring fusion structure was obtained from a phenethyl-substituted VCP derivative through a related but different reaction pathway.
