Taming the Topology of Calix[4]arene-Based 2D-Covalent Organic Frameworks: Interpenetrated vs Noninterpenetrated Frameworks and Their Selective Removal of Cationic Dyes

Bikash Garai et al.

Summary: A periodic 2D extended organic network of calix[4]arenes joined by a linear benzidine linker was synthesized via dynamic imine bonds, showcasing selective formation of interpenetrated and non-interpenetrated frameworks. The unique interpenetrated 2D layers exhibited high performance in charge-selective dye removal and exceptional selectivity for cationic dyes, attributed to the high negative surface charge from calixarene units. Computational methods were used to further investigate the charge distribution of the COFs and resulting selectivity for cationic dyes.

Pure Crystalline Covalent Organic Framework Aerogels

Dongyang Zhu et al.

Summary: The study presents a simple and versatile approach for the fabrication of pure macroscopic, crystalline, and porous COF aerogels without any binders or additives. Testing six different COFs revealed that the crystallinities and porosities of the COF aerogels matched those of COF powders, suggesting potential adsorption and capture properties.
