Gas-Assisted Spray Coating of Perovskite Solar Cells Incorporating Sprayed Self-Assembled Monolayers

Elena J. Cassella et al.

Summary: Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are widely used as hole-selective layers in perovskite solar cells. Ultrasonic spray coating and airbrush coating are effective methods for depositing carbazole-based SAMs. Solvent rinsing protocols overcome the dewetting issue of hybrid perovskite precursor solutions. Air-knife gas-quenching is used to remove volatile solvents, allowing fabrication of high-efficiency p-i-n devices with large-area roll-to-roll manufacturing.

Low-Bandgap Organic Bulk-Heterojunction Enabled Efficient and Flexible Perovskite Solar Cells

Shengfan Wu et al.

Summary: Lead halide perovskite and organic solar cells are seen as promising candidates for clean energy applications, but improvements are needed in the near-infrared photon loss and photovoltage deficit. By integrating low-bandgap organic bulk-heterojunction layers into inverted PSCs, high-performance hybrid solar cells can be constructed. These hybrid solar cells demonstrate excellent power conversion efficiency, extended photoresponse, and superior long-term stability compared to single-component PSCs and OSCs. With the highest efficiency reported for flexible solar cells to date, flexible HSCs can be integrated as a power source for wearable sensors, demonstrating real-time temperature monitoring capabilities.

18.4 % Organic Solar Cells Using a High Ionization Energy Self-Assembled Monolayer as Hole-Extraction Interlayer

Yuanbao Lin et al.

Summary: Self-assembled monolayers based on Br-2PACz, 2PACz, and MeO-2PACz were investigated as hole-extracting interlayers in organic photovoltaics. OPV cells using ITO/Br-2PACz anodes exhibited the highest power conversion efficiency due to the significantly higher work function of the ITO/Br-2PACz electrode, leading to improved hole transport and longer carrier lifetimes.

Interfacial toughening with self-assembled monolayers enhances perovskite solar cell reliability

Zhenghong Dai et al.

Summary: The use of iodine-terminated self-assembled monolayer (I-SAM) in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) leads to increased adhesion toughness at the interface, improved power conversion efficiency, reduced hysteresis, and enhanced operational stability. This is attributed to a decrease in hydroxyl groups at the interface and higher interfacial toughness achieved with I-SAM treatment.

Charge transfer rates and electron trapping at buried interfaces of perovskite solar cells

Igal Levine et al.

Summary: Identification of electronic processes at buried interfaces of charge selective contacts is crucial for photovoltaic and photocatalysis research. Transient surface photovoltage and photoluminescence provide complementary information on charge transfer kinetics and trapping/de-trapping mechanisms. Hole transfer rates and interface trap densities can be influenced by the chemical structure of SAMs, and high densities of interface traps can lead to significant losses in solar cells.

Highly efficient and stable perovskite solar cells enabled by a fluoro-functionalized TiO2 inorganic interlayer

Xiang Deng et al.

Summary: Interface engineering using robust fluoroterminated TiO2 nanosheets (F-TiO2 NSs) as interlayers between perovskite and electron-transporting layers greatly enhances the performance and stability of inverted perovskite solar cells. The flat morphology of F-TiO2 NSs allows for close contact with perovskite and abundant surface fluoro groups to interact with ions, preventing the formation of cation vacancies and alleviating surface defects, leading to a remarkable power conversion efficiency of 22.86%. Devices with F-TiO2 NSs interlayers also exhibit enhanced operational stability, maintaining over 90% of their initial efficiencies after 1,000 hours of monitoring at the maximum power point under day/night cycles.
