Engineering a deformation-free plastic spiral inertial microfluidic system for CHO cell clarification in biomanufacturing

Hyungkook Jeon et al.

Summary: This paper presents a deformation-free and mass-producible plastic spiral inertial microfluidic device for high-throughput cell separation applications. The plastic spiral device shows similar performance to PDMS devices in blood separation and CHO cell retention. Furthermore, a multiplexed plastic spiral unit achieves ultra-high-throughput cell clarification with high efficiency, which could have a significant impact on biomanufacturing.

Multi-dimensional-double-spiral (MDDS) inertial microfluidic platform for sperm isolation directly from the raw semen sample

Hyungkook Jeon et al.

Summary: In this study, a fully-automated platform using a spiral inertial microfluidic device for standardized semen preparation is proposed. The platform can process patient-derived semen samples with diverse fluidic conditions without any pre-washing steps. The developed separation platform showed excellent performance in isolating sperm cells from non-sperm seminal cells and achieving highly purified and concentrated sperm cells in a rapid and fully-automated manner.

Deep-Learning Based Label-Free Classification of Activated and Inactivated Neutrophils for Rapid Immune State Monitoring

Xiwei Huang et al.

Summary: The study introduces a deep learning-based method for label-free classification of white blood cells based on their morphologies to judge the cells' activation status, achieving over 90% accuracy. This approach effectively addresses the issues of complex instrumental operation and interference of fluorescent labeling with the physiological states of the cells.
