Label-Free Electrochemiluminescence Imaging of Single-Cell Adhesions by Using Bipolar Nanoelectrode Array

Xiang Qin et al.

Summary: A label-free and fast approach is proposed for positive ECL imaging of single cells using a bipolar nanoelectrode array. By generating oxygen in situ and taking advantage of steric hindrance to enhance contrast, cell morphology and adhesion strength can be successfully imaged with high image acquisition rate. This method opens a new avenue for label-free imaging of single cells.

Ultrasensitive Electrochemiluminescence Biosensor Based on Closed Bipolar Electrode for Alkaline Phosphatase Detection in Single Liver Cancer Cell

Xiao-Yan Yang et al.

Summary: An ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence biosensor based on a closed bipolar electrode was proposed for the detection of alkaline phosphatase. The sensitivity of the system was greatly enhanced by utilizing enzyme catalysis for signal amplification and electrodeposition of Au nanoparticles on the cathode surface. This biosensor showed high sensitivity and specificity, with a detection limit as low as 3.7 aM, and successfully realized ALP detection in single cells.

Bipolar electrode ratiometric electrochemiluminescence biosensing analysis based on boron nitride quantum dots and biological release system

Xue-yun Yang et al.

Summary: A novel ECL ratiometry method was developed for the sensitive and accurate detection of miRNA-21 using a closed bipolar electrode, enabling quantification of miRNA-21 concentration through the reactions at each pole of the BPE. The method showed potential for clinical application with a detection limit of 10-15 M and a linear range of 10-15 M to 10-9 M.

Bipolar electrochemiluminescence sensors: From signal amplification strategies to sensing formats

Zhi-Yuan Che et al.

Summary: The integration of bipolar electrode (BPE) with electrochemiluminescence (ECL), known as BP-ECL, shows great potential for analytical applications due to the excellent portability of BPE and intuitive readout of ECL. Signal amplification strategies are crucial for the development of highly sensitive BP-ECL sensing systems, and a systematic understanding of sensing formats and modes is meaningful for sensor design. An overview of signal amplification strategies and sensing formats in BP-ECL sensing assays holds promising potentials for analytical assays and can aid in understanding recent advances in the flourishing BP-ECL sensing fields.
