Sympathetic-transduction in untreated hypertension

Summary: The study found that untreated hypertensive men have lower sympathetic transduction compared to normotensive individuals, indicating that higher levels of MSNA are required to produce the same level of vasoconstrictor tone.

Seth W. Holwerda et al.

Summary: The study examined methods for quantifying spontaneous MSNA baroreflex sensitivity using linear regression slopes, finding that a correlation coefficient above -0.70 can significantly improve consistency, longer recording durations and a 3mmHg diastolic blood pressure bin size are beneficial for analysis improvement.

Sympathetic transduction in humans: recent advances and methodological considerations

Benjamin E. Young et al.

Summary: Microneurographic recordings have significantly advanced our understanding of central sympathetic outflow in human health and disease, highlighting the importance of studying vascular and/or blood pressure responses for sympathetic transduction. Different paradigms, such as stress-induced and resting sympathetic transduction, have been used to study sympathetic transduction, emphasizing the need to interpret findings from investigations using different techniques as distinct processes.

Effects of muscle sympathetic burst size and burst pattern on time-to-peak sympathetic transduction

Massimo Nardone et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of resting muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) burst size and firing pattern on time-to-peak sympathetic transduction in young healthy men and women. Results showed larger MSNA burst areas led to faster peak responses, independent of the pattern of sympathetic firing.

Blood pressure oscillations impact signal-averaged sympathetic transduction of blood pressure: implications for the association with resting sympathetic outflow

Massimo Nardone et al.

Summary: The signal-averaged sympathetic transduction of blood pressure is inversely related to resting muscle sympathetic nerve activity burst frequency in healthy cohorts. The methodological limitations in the analysis of MSNA transduction at different levels of absolute blood pressure are still unclear. Further research is needed to understand the timing relationship between MSNA bursts and blood pressure fluctuations.

Signal-averaged resting sympathetic transduction of blood pressure: is it time to account for prevailing muscle sympathetic burst frequency?

Massimo Nardone et al.

Summary: The study examined the relationship between resting burst frequency and sympathetic transduction, finding negative correlations between burst frequency and sympathetic transduction of BP, as well as the sympathetic transduction slope. Meanwhile, burst amplitude showed different relationships with sympathetic transduction in males and females, with a positive correlation in females but no correlation in males. The researchers proposed that including burst frequency in the calculation of sympathetic transduction could facilitate comparisons between individuals with varying levels of resting MSNA.
