Transoral robotic surgery versus nonrobotic resection of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma

Yeshwant Chillakuru et al.

Summary: The study found that in patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, those undergoing transoral robotic surgery (TORS) had better overall survival compared to those undergoing nonrobotic surgery (NRS). Specifically, TORS was associated with significantly improved survival rates in patients with base of tongue primaries.

Oncologic and survival outcomes for resectable locally-advanced HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer treated with transoral robotic surgery

Christina M. Yver et al.

Summary: The study showed that up-front trans-oral robotic surgery (TORS) for locally-advanced HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer provides favorable survival outcomes, with no significant difference in 5-year overall survival and recurrence-free survival compared to early-stage tumors. Despite locally-advanced cases being more likely to have higher stage disease, there was no significant difference in survival outcomes between the two groups.
