Retrospective study of the recurrence risk of preterm birth in Japan

Rie Seyama et al.

Summary: This study investigated the recurrence risk of preterm birth and preterm prelabor rupture of membranes (pPROM) in Japan, revealing that having a history of preterm birth increases the risk of recurrence and the risk increases with each subsequent preterm birth.

Summary: The study found that women with a history of preterm birth were at greater risk of experiencing preterm birth in subsequent pregnancies compared to those with only full-term births. The risk increased with shorter gestational lengths and the number of previous preterm deliveries.

Long-Term Neurodevelopmental Outcomes after Moderate and Late Preterm Birth: A Systematic Review

Lexuri Fernandez de Gamarra-Oca et al.

Summary: Despite some inconsistencies due to methodological differences, individuals born moderate and late preterm (MLPT) show minor long-term effects into adulthood. More studies are needed to explore the vulnerability of prematurity to adverse neurodevelopment outcomes influenced by biological and environmental factors.

Effects of prematurity on long-term renal health: a systematic review

Ananya Sangla et al.

Summary: A systematic review was conducted to investigate the impact of prematurity on long-term adverse kidney outcomes. Out of 31 human studies, it was found that premature birth is associated with an increased risk of high blood pressure and kidney dysfunction in childhood and early adulthood. Further larger multicentre studies are needed to conclusively determine the long-term effects of prematurity on kidney outcomes.

A meta-epidemiological study of bias in randomized clinical trials of open and laparoscopic surgery

M. A. Amer et al.

Summary: The lack of blinding significantly altered the treatment effect estimates in RCTs comparing laparoscopic and open surgery. Blinding of patients, postoperative carers, and outcome assessors had similar effects. Therefore, blinding should be implemented in surgical RCTs whenever possible to avoid systematic bias.
