Dapagliflozin and Recurrent Heart Failure Hospitalizations in Heart Failure With Reduced Ejection Fraction An Analysis of DAPA-HF

Pardeep S. Jhund et al.

Summary: The study found that dapagliflozin can reduce hospitalization rates and cardiovascular deaths in heart failure patients, with factors such as heart rate, N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels, and New York Heart Association class being associated with a higher risk of recurrent hospitalizations.

Effects of Depression on Heart Failure Self-Care

Kenneth E. Freedland et al.

Summary: Depression, perceived stress, anxiety, and low social support are associated with poor self-care in hospitalized patients with heart failure. Patients with a combination of psychosocial problems, including symptoms of depression, stress, anxiety, and inadequate social support, may have difficulties with self-care that increase their risk for hospitalization. Further research on broad-spectrum psychosocial interventions is needed for heart failure patients with self-care deficits.

Glucose-lowering Drugs and Hospitalization for Heart Failure: A Systematic Review and Additive-effects Network Meta-analysis With More Than 500 000 Patient-years

Riobaldo M. Cintra et al.

Summary: The study found that SGLT2is and SGLT2is+DPP4is can reduce the risk of hospitalization for heart failure, while TZDs alone or in combination with DPP4is can increase the risk. Regardless of the treatment regimen, a reduction of 1% in HbA1c can reduce the risk of hospitalization for heart failure by 31.3%.

Potential of community-based risk estimates for improving hospital performance measures and discharge planning

Michael Reid et al.

Summary: Hospital readmission rates are a common indicator of hospital performance, but current risk-adjustment methods may not account for external factors that can affect readmission rates. This study proposes a practical approach of using mixed-effect regression models to estimate case-mix adjusted community risk of readmission as a complementary performance indicator to hospital readmission rates.
