Hepatic Steatosis and Steatohepatitis in a Large North American Cohort of Adults With Chronic Hepatitis B

Summary: In a large North American cohort of chronic hepatitis B patients, nearly a third had fatty liver disease, with 13% having steatohepatitis. Steatohepatitis was associated with advanced fibrosis and increased hepatic inflammation markers over time, highlighting the importance of screening and managing metabolic abnormalities to prevent disease progression in HBV patients.

Prevalence of hepatic steatosis, fibrosis and associated factors in chronic hepatitis B

Summary: Approximately 30% of patients with CHB had HS, which was positively associated with male sex, diabetes and metabolic factors, and was negatively associated with HBeAg and HBV DNA. The prevalence of significant fibrosis in CHB patients was similar regardless of HS status.
