Summary: This study compared the clinical characteristics of idiopathic esophageal perforation with post-emetic type, revealing that idiopathic cases tended to have rear-side perforation and less chest pain. Idiopathic cases showed a different inflammatory response, diagnostic misdiagnosis rate, treatment initiation time, and prognosis compared to post-emetic cases.

Patients with nBS had diverse chief complaints, higher preoperative C-reactive protein levels, and smaller perforation diameters. Initial surgery for nBS patients may not necessarily require closure of the perforation site.
