Perspective Surface characterization of thin-film composite membranes using contact angle technique: Review of quantification strategies and applications

Summary: Thin-film composite membranes are widely used for low-cost and energy-efficient water desalination processes. This review discusses the importance of controlling surface parameters and evaluates the use of contact angle analysis for membrane surface characterization. Contact angle analysis provides useful information on surface properties that influence membrane permeation and fouling. Simplifying membrane evaluation through contact angle analysis can expedite the membrane development process.

A review on oil/water emulsion separation membrane material

Designing and fabricating efficient separation membrane materials is an effective approach to solve this problem, attracting tremendous attention. This article provides a comprehensive overview of separation membrane materials with controlled pore structure and tunable wettability for highly efficient oil/water emulsion separation. Different types of membrane materials and special functional membranes have also been summarized, focusing on their application in oil/water separation.

Further modification of oil-water separation membrane based on chitosan and titanium dioxide

Summary: This paper investigates a new method for preparing oil-water separation membrane by coating chitosan/nano-TiO2-modified liquid on cellulose membrane surface using negative pressure suction filtration. The study examines the performance parameters of the modified cellulose composite membrane with different concentration ratios, and determines the optimal process parameters for membrane preparation. Furthermore, further research is needed to explore the impact of light on membrane flux due to the presence of nano-TiO2 particles in the new membrane.

The modified membrane showed significantly higher filtration flux and separation efficiency compared to the mixed cellulose membrane (MCE), with its flux being maintained after multiple cycles and still maintaining superoleophobicity underwater in harsh environments.
