Synthesis of Cu2(OH)3Cl as facile and effective Fenton catalysts for mineralizing aromatic contaminants: Combination of σ-Cu-ligand and self-redox property

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: Cu-2(OH)(3)Cl was synthesized as catalysts for mineralizing aromatic organics via Fenton reactions. Gamma-Cu-2(OH)(3)Cl with the highest Cu+ percentage exhibited the best mineralization ability under relatively mild conditions. The complex formed between Cu2+ and phenolic hydroxyls in contaminants can be attacked by H2O2, leading to electron transfer and HO center dot formation, while gamma-Cu-2(OH)(3)Cl can initiate electron transfer from H2O2 to Cu2+ and promote Cu+ regeneration and H2O2 utilization efficiency.

Fe-based Fenton-like catalysts for water treatment: Catalytic mechanisms and applications

Jianlong Wang et al.

Summary: Fenton reaction utilizes hydroxyl radicals generated by ferrous iron and hydrogen peroxide for degradation of emerging contaminants in water, while Fenton-like reaction uses solid catalysts instead of dissolved Fe2+ to overcome drawbacks. This review systematically summarizes various Fe-based Fenton-like catalysts, discusses their catalytic mechanisms and applications for degradation of emerging contaminants, and highlights their potential for removing toxic organic pollutants from water and wastewater.

In-situ synthesis of CuS@carbon nanocomposites and application in enhanced photo-fenton degradation of 2,4-DCP

Yi Chen et al.

Summary: CuS nanoparticles embedded into carbon nanosheets (CuS@CNs) were prepared in situ using wheat straw cellulose/feather protein hydrogel beads as templates for photocatalytic activation of H2O2 to degrade 2,4-dichlorphenol (2,4-DCP). The CuS@CNs showed excellent photo-Fenton degradation performance for 2,4-DCP, with (OH)• being the main active radicals contributing to the degradation. Incorporation of carbon nanosheets significantly improved the separation of photogenerated charge carriers to stimulate pollutant degradation by CuS nanoparticles.

Synthesis and characterizations of natural limestone-derived nano-hydroxyapatite (HAp): a comparison study of different metals doped HAps on antibacterial activity

Karya Sinulingga et al.

Summary: Earth-abundant mineral limestone from North Sumatera, Indonesia, was used to synthesize nano-hydroxyapatite (HAp), and various metal ions (Ag, Cu, Zn, and Mg) were doped into HAp to enhance antibacterial activity. The incorporation of metal ions significantly improved the antibacterial performance of HAp, with Ag-HAp exhibiting the highest activity against E. coli and S. aureus.
