Demonstration of the Feasibility of Predicting the Flow of Pharmaceutically Relevant Powders from Particle and Bulk Physical Properties

Herve Barjat et al.

Summary: The study focused on understanding and predicting the flow of bulk pharmaceutical materials for pharmaceutical manufacturing by continuous direct compression (CDC). By analyzing particle properties, powder measurements and using statistical modeling, researchers were able to build predictive models for flow. Results showed that static image analysis could predict flow in shear cells related to performance in a CDC system, with little powder needed for analysis, while surface area and surface energy techniques did not significantly contribute to the precision of the model.

Liquid crystalline phases of linear alkylbenzene sulphonate in spray-dried detergent powders studied by small-angle X-ray scattering, TEM, and ATR-IR spectroscopy

Summary: This study investigated the molecular structure of stacked lamellae in spray-dried detergent granules using small-angle X-ray scattering. It was found that the number of lamellae decreased with increasing relative humidity, accompanied by an increase in lamellar d-spacing and a significant reduction in bilayer thickness. The decrease in the number of lamellae was attributed to an increase in the fluidity of the lamellar phases and disappearance of water-poor solid polymorphs.
