Hao Cheng et al.

Summary: This study focuses on designing new covalent heptazine frameworks with spatially separated redox centers for efficient photocatalytic production of H2O2. Both experimental and computational investigations support the critical role of this unique spatial separation feature in enhancing charge separation and achieving efficient H2O2 production. The rationally designed CHFs show a solar-to-chemical conversion efficiency of 0.78% under simulated solar irradiation, surpassing previously reported photocatalytic materials.

Self-Assembly of Ir-Based Nanosheets with Ordered Interlayer Space for Enhanced Electrocatalytic Water Oxidation

Lianhai Zu et al.

Summary: In this work, ultrathin Ir-IrOx/C nanosheets with ordered interlayer space were synthesized through a nanoconfined self-assembly strategy, exhibiting enhanced catalytic activity for acidic oxygen evolution reactions. The nanosheets showed one of the lowest overpotential during OER in an acid medium, benefiting from their mixed-valence states, rich electrophilic oxygen species, and favorable mesostructured architectures. This study opens a new avenue for designing high-performance 2D ordered mesoporous electrocatalysts for water oxidation and beyond through a nanoconfined self-assembly strategy.

Conjugation- and Aggregation-Directed Design of Covalent Organic Frameworks as White-Light-Emitting Diodes

Sizhuo Yang et al.

Summary: 2D covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have emerged as a promising class of organic luminescent materials due to their structural diversity. This study reports two highly emissive sp(2)-C-COFs and explores the correlation between structure and light absorption/emission, charge transfer (CT), and exciton dynamics. The research shows that the planarity, conjugation, orientation of the dipole moment, and interlayer aggregation play important roles in determining the light-harvesting ability and photoluminescent quantum yield of COFs.

Rational Design of High-Concentration Ti3+ in Porous Carbon-Doped TiO2 Nanosheets for Efficient Photocatalytic Ammonia Synthesis

Qing Han et al.

Summary: The study presents porous carbon-doped anatase TiOx (C-TiOx) nanosheets with high-concentration active sites of Ti3+ obtained through a reproducible bottom-up approach. It demonstrates that the high-concentration Ti3+ sites play a vital role in enhancing N-2 photoreduction activity. Combined with the morphology of porous nanosheets and the loading of a Ru/RuO2 cocatalyst, the optimized C-TiOx shows a high NH3 production rate and remarkable quantum efficiency under visible-light irradiation, outperforming current TiO2-based photocatalysts.

Boosting visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance of waxberry-like CeO2 by samarium doping and silver QDs anchoring

Hui Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a waxberry-like CeO2 photocatalyst with enhanced visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance was achieved through Sm doping and Ag quantum dots anchoring. The doping increased the concentration of oxygen vacancies in CeO2, resulting in a narrower bandgap and improved visible light utilization efficiency. The captured electrons by the vacancies effectively restricted the recombination of photo-excited carriers, leading to enhanced photocatalytic activities.

Free Charge Carriers in Homo-Sorted p-Stacks of Donor-Acceptor Conjugates

Meera Madhu et al.

Summary: This review discusses the recent advancements in hierarchical organization of molecular building blocks for improved photoconversion in organic solar cells. The self-sorted donor-on-donor/acceptor-on-acceptor arrangements have shown enhanced charge separation efficiency through ultrafast excited state dynamics. The controlled interface and electronic coupling between covalently linked donors and acceptors provide better charge carrier generation efficiency and offer new possibilities for functional supramolecular architectures.

Enhancing oxygen reduction electrocatalysis by tuning interfacial hydrogen bonds

Tao Wang et al.

Summary: The proton activity at the electrified interface plays a crucial role in the kinetics of proton-coupled electron transfer reactions. By using a library of protic ionic liquids on platinum and gold interfaces, researchers have successfully enhanced the oxygen reduction reaction activity by up to fivefold, showing a volcano-shaped dependence on the pK(a) of the ionic liquid. This enhancement is attributed to strengthened hydrogen bonds between ORR products and ionic liquids with similar pK(a)s, leading to favorable PCET kinetics.
