Application of polyaniline impregnated mixed phase Fe2O3, MnFe2O4 and ZrO2 nanocomposite for rapid abatement of binary dyes from aqua matrix: response surface optimisation

Akash Deb et al.

Summary: In this research, a new nanocomposite (Fe-Mn-Zr/PANI-NC) was prepared by impregnating a mixed phase nanocomposite onto polyaniline. The nanocomposite showed high efficiency in adsorbing methyl orange (MO) and eosin yellow (EY) dyes from wastewater. The adsorption process was driven by electrostatic attraction and pi-pi interaction between the dye molecules and Fe-Mn-Zr/PANI-NC. The nanocomposite exhibited short equilibrium time, high reusability, and favorable adsorption in a wide range of solution pH.

Ultrasonically enhanced dye removal using conducting polymer functionalised ZnO nanocomposite at near neutral pH: kinetic study, isotherm modelling and adsorbent cost analysis

Akash Deb et al.

Summary: The alarming increase in water pollution caused by the disposal of industrial wastewater containing toxic dye has led to the development of highly functionalised novel composite materials for dye-loaded wastewater remediation. In this study, a conducting polymer (polyaniline) functionalised ZnO nanocomposite (PAn/ZnO-PNC) was synthesised and its adsorptive behaviour for the removal of an anionic dye (EBT) under ultrasonic irradiation was investigated. The results showed that the functionalised composite had a higher adsorption capacity and a lower pH dependency compared to pure polymer and pure nanoparticles. The adsorption mechanism was attributed to electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and pi-pi interaction. The synthesized composite showed great potential for the removal of dyes from wastewater.

Sono-assisted enhanced adsorption of eriochrome Black-T dye onto a novel polymeric nanocomposite: kinetic, isotherm, and response surface methodology optimization

Akash Deb et al.

Summary: Colored wastewater from dyeing and textile industries is a major cause of water pollution, but advances in material science have led to the development of highly efficient composite materials for its remediation. This study focused on the fabrication of a novel iron oxide/polyaniline polymeric nanocomposite for the removal of a toxic anionic dye, Eriochrome Black-T, and found that the composite showed enhanced dye removal efficiency over a wide pH range. The optimization using response surface methodology revealed the conditions for maximum dye uptake adsorption.

Optimization of Fenton process for removing TOC and color from swine wastewater using response surface method (RSM)

Umair Ali Toor et al.

Summary: The Fenton oxidation process was successfully applied to biologically treated swine wastewater (BSWW) for the removal of TOC and color constituents. By optimizing operational variables using the response surface method (RSM), it was found that FeSO4 is more important for TOC removal, while H2O2 plays a significant role in color removal. The optimal conditions derived through process optimization led to 76.7% removal of TOC and 98% removal of color from the swine wastewater.

Forecasting the multicomponent adsorption of nimesulide and paracetamol through artificial neural network

P. S. Pauletto et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the adsorption of nimesulide and paracetamol on activated carbon using artificial neural network (ANN) models. Results showed that nimesulide had a higher affinity for the active sites of the AC compared to paracetamol, and in binary adsorption, nimesulide molecules competed with paracetamol molecules for adsorption sites. The optimal ANN model successfully predicted the adsorption of both nimesulide and paracetamol.

Adsorptive removal of COD from produced water using tea waste biochar

Hifsa Khurshid et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of tea waste biochar as an adsorbent for oxidizable organic contaminants in produced water. The combined modified biochar showed higher efficiency in COD removal, with Langmuir adsorption model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model being the most suitable for describing the process, achieving a maximum COD removal efficiency of 95.5%.
