Deceleration area and capacity during labour-like umbilical cord occlusions identify evolving hypotension: a controlled study in fetal sheep

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between fetal hypotension and deceleration area and capacity, showing a strong correlation and potential to improve identification of fetuses at risk of hypotension leading to hypoxic-ischaemic injury during labor.

Heart rate variability as possible marker of brain damage in neonates with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy: a systematic review

Iliana Bersani et al.

Summary: Heart rate variability (HRV) is considered the most valuable non-invasive test for investigating autonomic nervous system function. Abnormal HRV values have been associated with brain impairment in the perinatal period, making HRV a potential marker for brain damage in cases of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. HRV may offer early information on the severity of brain injury in asphyxiated neonates and assist in designing personalized treatments, but further research is needed to confirm these findings.

Predictive Models of Neurodevelopmental Outcomes After Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy

Summary: This study used data from the CHND to develop predictive models for death or neurodevelopmental impairment after neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Results showed that the early and cumulative models had good performance in both discovery and validation cohorts.
