Factors affecting the vacancy formation energy in Fe70Ni10Cr20 random concentrated alloy

Anus Manzoor et al.

Summary: The vacancy formation energy in concentrated solid-solution alloys varies significantly due to factors such as 1NN composition, arrangement of 1NN atoms, atomic relaxation, and volume of the vacancy. The energy can change even when the 1NN composition is fixed, demonstrating the complex nature of vacancy formation in these alloys. Second nearest neighbors have been found to have a negligible influence on the vacancy formation energy.

Study of vacancies in Fex(CoCrMnNi)100-x medium- and high-entropy alloys by positron annihilation spectroscopy

Dennis Edgard Jodi et al.

Summary: The study utilized positron annihilation spectroscopy to investigate vacancies in Fe-x(CoCrMnNi)(100-x) medium- and high-entropy alloys. It was found that these alloys mainly contain monovacancies with a positron lifetime of approximately 170 ps. Alloys with lower iron content exhibited higher configurational entropy and lower concentration of monovacancies. Additionally, the presence of vacancies was associated with enhanced manganese content in the vicinity.

Ab initio simulations of the surface free energy of TiN(001)

Axel Forslund et al.

Summary: The study investigated the temperature dependence of TiN(001) surface free energy using a new thermodynamic method and found that anharmonic vibrations have a significant impact on the surface free energy. The use of machine-learning potentials provided surface free energy results close to those obtained from full AIMD simulations.
