Entropy engineering induced exceptional thermoelectric and mechanical performances in Cu2-yAgyTe1-2xSxSex

Zixun Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of entropy engineering to improve the thermoelectric performance and mechanical properties of multicomponent alloys. By mixing multiple elements and co-alloying, the high-symmetry hexagonal structure is stabilized, phase transition numbers are reduced, and carrier concentration is decreased while the effective mass is enhanced. The entropy engineering strengthening effect also significantly improves the mechanical properties of the materials.

(GeTe)1-x(AgSnSe2)x: Strong Atomic Disorder-Induced High Thermoelectric Performance near the Ioffe-Regel Limit

Gege Liang et al.

Summary: In thermoelectrics, a delicate balance between atomic order and disorder plays a crucial role in optimizing performance. Strong atomic disorder in GeTe was found to suppress detrimental phase transitions and enhance thermoelectric performance. The introduction of AgSnSe2 and Sb co-alloying significantly improved the material's properties by eliminating unfavorable phase transitions and increasing carrier concentration.

Emphanisis in Cubic (SnSe)0.5(AgSbSe2)0.5: Dynamical Off-Centering of Anion Leads to Low Thermal Conductivity and High Thermoelectric Performance

Moinak Dutta et al.

Summary: The study investigates the phenomenon of emphanisis in the (SnSe)(0.5)(AgSbSe2)(0.5) system, showing that the gradual deviation of the Se atoms' positions leads to changes in M-Se bonds, ultimately reducing the lattice thermal conductivity. The research also demonstrates the potential of this system for promising thermoelectric properties, with a figure of merit (zT) reaching 1.05 at 706 K.

Augmentation of the thermoelectric properties of polycrystalline Tin selenides via formation of SnSe/SnSe2 composites

S. Gowthamaraju et al.

Summary: By synthesizing composites of SnSe/SnSe2, the thermoelectric properties of polycrystalline tin selenides can be simultaneously enhanced. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy confirm the formation of two distinct crystal structures in the composite, and the composites exhibit emergent properties that are an improvement over its individual phases. Changes in the ratio of SnSe:SnSe2 phases lead to noticeable variations in thermal conductivity, caused by the scattering of phonons at the grain boundaries of the two phases.

Contrasting Cu Roles Lead to High Ranged Thermoelectric Performance of PbS

Yongxin Qin et al.

Summary: By introducing Cu with different roles into p-type PbS, this study effectively reduces lattice thermal conductivity and optimizes electrical transport properties. Experimental results show that Cu substitutions and interstitials can improve carrier mobility and shift the peak power factor to lower temperatures, leading to record-high ZT values. The special dynamic-doping behaviors of Cu continuously promote carrier concentration towards a temperature-dependent relationship, resulting in an eminent average power factor among the tested temperature range.
