A method for simultaneously crosslinking and functionalizing extracellular matrix-based biomaterials as bioprosthetic heart valves with enhanced endothelialization and reduced inflammation

Gaoyang Guo et al.

Summary: The study used in-situ polymerization of sulfonic monomers with decellularized extracellular matrix (ECM) for crosslinking and functionalization, providing a potential material for more durable bioprosthetic heart valves. In vitro tests showed promotion of endothelial cell proliferation and migration, while in vivo tests significantly reduced immune response and calcification.

Polyzwitterion-crosslinked hybrid tissue with antithrombogenicity, endothelialization, anticalcification properties

Fan Yang et al.

Summary: This study developed a new method to copolymerize zwitterionic monomer and methacrylated porcine pericardium for the fabrication of TAV leaflets with robust antithrombotic and anticalcification properties. The experimental results showed that this new hybrid material has lower thrombogenicity and can effectively inhibit the calcification of valve leaflets, promising to extend the lifespan of TAV.

Multifarious anti-biofouling bioprosthetic heart valve materials with the formation of interpenetrating polymer network structures

Yang Lei et al.

Summary: This study proposes a strategy to fabricate an antibiofouling BHV by constructing interpenetrating polymer network structures on both inner and outer valve materials, and systematically investigates its antifouling properties through in vitro and in vivo experiments. The results show that the modified BHV exhibits better multifarious anti-biofouling properties compared to other treatment methods.
